RE 3 Remake – a pass-through or a gift for fans?

//RE 3 Remake – a pass-through or a gift for fans?

Few people haven’t heard of the Resident Evil franchise. Having released the first Resident Evil back in 1996, Capcom continues to delight us with new games to this day. And it doesn’t look like the developers are going to stop.

2020 pleased with the remake of Resident Evil 3 . As a child, I never managed to complete it on the PlayStation and I gladly took on the remake – having decided to complete the original after, so as not to spoil the impression of comparison with the classic part (the article was written after completing both versions).

The remake received average ratings from players – only 5.8 points at the time of writing. In my opinion, this assessment is not fair, which is what I would like to talk about.

The plot centers on Jill Valentine’s escape from the monster-infested Raccoon City. Jill changed her image to a more modest and at the same time more practical, which caused a mixed reaction among fans.

Is the change in the image of the main character significant?? It just depends on what angle you look at the question from.

Other characters have also undergone changes. According to the hero’s biography, Carlos has Latin American roots. It’s no surprise that he also changed his look in the remake.

21 years have passed since the release of the original part and technology has not stood still. Unlike the original, the remake allows the player to control the camera. Although the fixed camera was a technical limitation of its time, it also supported the atmosphere. The player heard about the approaching monsters before facing them.

The remake maintains the atmosphere in other ways. When aiming, you need to wait until Jill (or Carlos) takes aim – the crosshair of the sight narrows, which increases the accuracy of the shot. However, the monsters do not wait and are constantly closing the distance. Thus, the player is always faced with a choice – wait to take a more effective shot and save ammo, or carry out a quick attack while keeping the enemy at a distance.

Lighting also contributes to the atmosphere of the game. Shop signs point the direction to the player and illuminate the city at night.

The developers did not abandon the limitation of inventory space – each foray from the shelter should be carefully planned: should you take more medicinal herbs with you, diversify your arsenal, or leave a couple of slots for searching for new items. But unlike the original, the player can find bags that increase inventory space.

Biological weapon "Nemesis" remains Jill’s main enemy. Having started his pursuit from the apartment, Nemesis will not lag behind until the very end – the last member of S.T.A.R.S. or your own.

The problem with Nemesis is that it only keeps you on your toes during your first playthrough. The fact is that his appearance is scripted by certain plot twists. Unlike the same Mr. X from the remake of the second part, who constantly pursues Leon and Claire in the Police Station. By the way, this is one of the reasons why Resident Evil 3 plays better before and not after the second part.

By stunning a mutant during a collision, the player will receive a reward that is more modest compared to the original. You can get upgrades for weapons and ammo, but you won’t be able to craft new weapons.

The developers paid attention to detail – observant players will notice hints scattered throughout the game and will be able to obtain more valuable equipment.

As in the remake of the second part, fans of exploration can find Charlie dolls and get an achievement for destroying all 20 of them.

Among the good game design solutions of the remake, it is worth noting shortcuts – after going through a certain period of the game, you can lower the stairs or open the door, which will make it possible to move around the territory much faster.

In addition, some zombies carry parasites reminiscent of Las Plagas from the fourth part. I remember my first playthrough of the fourth part – zombies with a tentacle instead of a head were perceived as extremely strange after the classic zombies of the trilogy. It’s good that the developers are smoothly preparing new players for the variety of monsters in subsequent games.

There are also controversial decisions in the game.

There are fewer bosses, enemies, weapons and locations. Yes, boss fights still pit us against Nemesis. But in the original there was also a battle with a giant worm, which provided some variety, albeit a little.

Despite the variety of monsters https://winadaycasino.co.uk/bonus/ in the game, our main opponents remain zombies. Cerberus and gamma hunters are encountered only 2 times per game, and beetles only once.

Unfortunately, giant spiders and snakes did not make it to the remake. But even if they don’t frighten you, they will clearly add tension. And poisonous attacks. Not all the bugs at the power plant can take the rap.

In the remake of the 3rd part we will not see the city park. And you won’t be able to visit the local landmark – the Chapel of St. Michael. But the locations that are in the game have become more developed.

In the same hospital there is not only more space, but also the opportunity to play as Carlos, where the pace of the game changes and the player gets the opportunity to shoot evil spirits from the heart.

It is unclear why the developers abandoned the knife mechanics from the remake of the second part. In it, the knives had a certain level of durability and broke during use, but the player could still use it to evade the enemy’s capture – losing the knife, but maintaining health.

So why is RE 3 Remake worth your attention??

The remake is a significant departure from the original. From a slow survival horror, the game has turned into a dynamic action shooter – there is much less backtracking and riddles. The game is more respectful of your time, offering rich content without artificially dragging out time to increase gameplay.

In my opinion, the motivations of the heroes turned out to be more revealed, and the heroes became more interesting to watch. You may be alarmed that the authors made a strong and independent Jill paying tribute to fashion. But in the original, Jill was already a character with a core, which cannot be said about Carlos – in the chapel of St. Michael, the guy throws a tantrum and Jill helps him pull himself together. I’m glad that in the remake Carlos is much more collected.

I noticed that many people criticize the remake due to nostalgic feelings. As a fan of the first PlayStation games, I agree – the original game is more frightening and keeps you in suspense.

But we must admit that today the game looks morally outdated. And certainly a new audience should get acquainted with the series with the help of fresh remakes.

Not the worst cut, but certainly not a gift for fans.

This is true 🙂
Is it possible that for the battle with Nemesis I could afford 2 first aid kits and was fully packed with weapons and ammunition.
Fortunately, as you progress through the game and find bags, there is more space in your inventory.

Very cool adon, high quality. But the trouble is that the cost of a full-fledged game is too high 🙂

The low rating is deserved. Fans expected a remake of the RE2R level, but received an add-on with the events of the 3rd part. There are no questions about Jill’s character; in my opinion, she turned out better than Claire in RE2R. The company turned out to be scanty, extremely short. Duration as half of the company for each of the heroes. Removed the Mercenaries mode, which was supposed to be sold separately as a network mode in a different form. The remake of RE4 will receive exactly the same ratings if they cut out additional companies, reduce the time it takes to complete the company, etc.d.

Naturally, those who bought the remake for full price naturally ask the question: what is that money for?? The duration is not even 10 hours., cost no less than RE2R. Nemesis is absolutely not creepy, unlike the original. The original company was not one bit tight. You need to go through it strictly in order (RE1 Remaster, RE0 Remaster, RE2 original, RE3 original, then the remakes of RE2 and RE3).

but still a good game in my opinion.

For 100 rubles – yes. (For free, complete with the second one, it’s absolutely wonderful) For more – no.
The game is not bad. I’m not saying that the game is bad. The problem is that Money Doesn’t Grow on Trees, and such a remake (in this version, in the sense that it’s short and all that) is not worth the money for such a price.

See for yourself. Black Mesa is a remake of the first Half-Life at a recent sale it was sold for 100 rubles, but it costs 400. And this is the perfect remake. No complaints. A real gift for fans. Here it is – a gift, yes. Although she doesn’t even have a video review on SG. They could have asked for 2000 for it – it’s worth that kind of money, but RE3 is not, period.

And the comment below is about the same thing and people under the review of Vasya and Vasily Galperov wrote the same thing.

I know a YouTube walkthrough isn’t the same. But paying to feel cheated is NOT. I don’t want to pirate either. That leaves YouTube. Capcom lost their conscience to sell it for such a price.

Should you take more medicinal herbs with you, diversify your arsenal, or leave a couple of slots for searching for new items?.

Good article, but I don’t agree with a number of points. For example, at a high level of difficulty there is no choice. As a rule, the inventory contains 1 first aid kit and a couple of cartridges)

As a child, I never managed to complete it on the PlayStation and I gladly took on the remake – having decided to complete the original after, so as not to spoil the impression of comparison with the classic part (the article was written after completing both versions).

That is, the author passed the original after completing the remake 😉
I wanted to avoid the duckling syndrome in order to look at the game with an open mind (as far as possible), and then close the gestalt with the original.

Yes, the remake can be completed literally in one evening. Rich and memorable.
This is no longer the same slot that delighted players during the first PS, but it’s still a good game in my opinion.

Pricing of games is generally a separate topic for discussion.
That’s why I picked up RE 3 Remake on sale, and under the pirate flag you can get the game without paying a penny 🙂
I tried to evaluate the game without being attached to its cost.

And finally, going through YouTube and going through the game yourself is far from the same thing.
It’s up to you to decide, of course, but I think the game can be given a chance.

And thanks for sharing your opinion about the game)

… came to this conclusion, ha?

The original RE 3 was not artificially delayed at all. I passed it and remember it well. And the remake… which I played on YouTube… well, excuse me, of course, but the New RE 3 is just some kind of stub. Even without comparison with the original.

And I kind of understand everything, the fan will buy it, the fan will be happy, we made it for the fans. But firstly, judging by the reviews, not everyone is happy that they paid 2000 rubles for a 6 hour game and feel deceived. Even the fans. And secondly, a random example, Sekiro costs 2000 rubles on Steam and on sale it was sold for 999 rubles. And she has prestigious GOTI awards. And there’s more than 100 hours of content there. Plus replayability, which the RE3 remake simply does not have.

No, of course, if the publisher sold it for 300, or better yet, 100 rubles. Then there are no questions. He’s lenient about it and all that. But as it is now – it’s shameless to ask for a full price for such a thing. This is not a gift, this is a real money scam.
